Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC)
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) colleges and universities are dedicated to helping servicemembers and their families get college degrees. Member colleges agree to accept each other's credits in transfer.
This agreement helps servicemembers and their family members in isolated locations can take courses through such "distance learning" methods as the Internet, correspondence, computer, or video. Military students can complete courses in their off-duty hours at or near military installations in the United States, overseas, and on Navy ships.
Today SOC is a consortium of more than 1800 colleges and universities that provide educational opportunities for servicemembers and their families

American Council on Education (ACE)
IU accepts credit recommendations made by the American Council on Education (ACE) for military training, occupations, and experiences. The American Council on Education (ACE) is the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions and provides leadership on key higher education issues. An important service that ACE provides is a credit recommendation service that helps college students earn credit for both military and non-military training, education, and experiences.
Non-Military Credit
Through its College Credit Recommendation Service (CREDIT), ACE helps students obtain academic credit for formal courses and examinations taken outside college and university degree programs. ACE recommends credit for training and courses offered by all types of organizations, including business and industry, labor unions, professional and voluntary associations, schools, training suppliers, and government agencies. ACE also recommends credit for professional examinations, professional licenses, certificates, and training programs.
Military Credit
A person who has completed certain types of military training can request academic credit based on ACE credit recommendations for military training, education, occupations, and related experiences. ACE Military Programs is the division that oversees this service.
How to Obtain Credit through ACE Recommendations
To receive academic credit based on ACE recommendations, you must submit the appropriate documentation to IU.
For non-military credit, submit an official ACE transcript that lists your education experiences and ACE’s credit recommendations. To set up a transcript, contact the ACE Transcript Service.
For military credit , submit an official military transcript or other applicable documentation. Contact your base education officer or ACE for more information about military transcripts. Contact IU for more information about documentation besides transcripts that IU may accept.
