Employment and career opportunities in virtually any field are greatly enhanced through completion of this degree. The A.S. in Business also prepares students to continue their educational endeavors in bachelor’s level programs.

General Business Degree

Graduates of the A.S. in Business will demonstrate:

  • A functional knowledge and understanding of business acquired through courses that cover accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, information technology, and related fields

  • General knowledge of science, social science, and language arts expected of someone who has earned a degree

  • Awareness of business as a field of knowledge and practice, and the intention to participate actively as professionals in their field.

In today’s competitive market place, an associate degree will be a great benefit to job seekers. For example, one of the fastest growing business sectors over the next decade will be customer service. According to the U. S. Department of Labor, employer demand for a higher skilled work force in customer service means that many employers now require a minimum of an associate degree for entry level positions. Median annual earnings vary widely, depending upon the type of industry; median annual salary in customer service was $27,000 in May 2004.
