Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing offers
registered nurses the skills needed to advance in today’s
healthcare environment. In addition to courses in advanced
nursing concepts, courses in non-clinical aspects of the
healthcare industry provide practitioners the knowledge and
skills to accept increasingly higher levels of
responsibility.
BSN Degree Program
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing will
demonstrate:
-
General
knowledge of science, social science, and language
arts expected of someone who has earned a degree
-
Functional knowledge and understanding of advanced
nursing and healthcare theories and practice
-
Active
participation in nursing as professionals in the
field
Individuals who desire career mobility
and movement into higher levels of management in the healthcare field will benefit from achievement of a bachelor’s
degree. Clinical managers in healthcare are generally
expected or encouraged to achieve the advanced knowledge and
skills offered through a bachelor’s level program. The U.S.
Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook 2006-07
notes that advancement opportunities are generally broader
for registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree. In fact,
some career paths are open only to nurses with a bachelor’s
degree or above. Employment in this field is growing faster
than the average, and is expected to continue to grow.
Median annual earnings for registered nurses in May 2004
were $52,330.
