As an IU student, here’s what you can expect:

At the very start of your coursework as a new student in our respiratory therapist program, you’ll receive a new tablet and keyboard complete with all your learning materials built right in. Courses are set up in modules, with each module lasting four weeks. You’ll take one to two online courses per module, according to your program schedule. Because it’s important to stay on track (no one likes to play “catch up”), each course will have a daily checkpoint each day in which you complete a short assignment. For example, a checkpoint could involve reading an article on advances in critical care medicine, then answering a short question about the article.

During your fourth module, we will send you a new laptop to use. Both the tablet and laptop are yours to use while in school and keep upon graduation!

At IU, you can gain the knowledge and skills needed to advance your career as a respiratory care practitioner. Choose from supervisory positions in a broad range of respiratory care settings.

Some of the courses (taught in 4-week modules) you’ll complete include:

  • Healthcare Research in Practice
  • Health Professional as Educator
  • Principles and Practices of Disease Management
  • Respiratory Care in a Managed Care Environment

And much more! You may have several respiratory therapist programs to choose from; however, if you want exceptional support, choose IU! During your studies, you’ll have access to no-cost tutoring as well as personal time with instructors as needed.

You’ll also be introduced to your very own “Success Team.” Each team member has a purpose and will assist and support you as you progress in your studies. Your admissions consultant will assist you step-by-step as you go through the enrollment process. Your active student planner will make sure all your financial aid paperwork is in order throughout your schooling to ensure you continue to receive the financial aid you are entitled to. Your student services adviser will be in contact with you throughout your schooling to monitor your progress and provide general assistance—both in and outside of school. Your faculty program adviser is typically an instructor in your program whom you can turn to regarding issues you may have in your degree program. Finally, you will have a career services adviser who will be assigned to you during your fourth module. This adviser will assist you in career development that is customized to you, so when graduation arrives, you will have the right job search tools and confidence to find a great job!

After graduation, explore new options for your respiratory therapy career:

With your advanced degree in hand, you, as a respiratory care practitioner, can utilize your new management skills to lead respiratory care staff in an efficient delivery of services. You’ll be qualified to work in supervisory and managerial positions at hospitals, clinics, respiratory care centers, long-term care facilities, and sleep disorder treatment centers.
