Independence University donates technology to International Rescue Committee
SALT LAKE CITY— The International Rescue Committee (IRC), an organization that responds to humanitarian crises all around the world, received a donation of 40 tablets and 40 laptops from Independence University (IU) on January 10, 2019.
The technology donation will help the IRC as they help refugees get settled in the state of Utah. The laptops and tablets will help several refugee families become more independent and self-sufficient.
This is the first time Independence University has donated to the IRC. University officials made the donation to the Utah branch of the IRC with the goal of helping people living in the Beehive State.
Joseph Dunlop, the Associate Campus Director for Independence University, says the donation helps fulfill the school’s mission. “Our purpose is to help as many people become independent through education or through organizations who sponsor individuals to help them become independent,” says Dunlop.
Independence University Executive Director Alan Hansen said donating the computers is right in line with the university’s initiative to enrich the educational experience of all people by making technology more accessible.
The 40 laptops and 40 tablets are gently used materials previously used by IU students. Dunlop says the technology has been cleaned and upgraded so it can be most beneficial to refugee families seeking greater independence in Utah.
