INDEPENDENCE UNIVERSITY HONORS NURSING STUDENT WITH DISTINGUISHED THESIS AWARD

Boynton Beach, FL – Richard Wiltse, a local Boynton Beach resident and Lockport, NY native, was recently recognized by Independence University with the Distinguished Master Thesis Award.
Wiltse has been attending Independence University since 2017 and will graduate summa cum laude with his Master's degree in nursing on June 2.
The Distinguished Master Thesis Award is given to the master's student with the best thesis in each department (business, healthcare, and technology) at Independence University.
“This award is given to a thesis that adds to the body of knowledge of the profession with exemplary content and exceptional ideas,” said Dr. Carmen Herbel Spears, Dean of Independence University's School of Healthcare. “Winning the Distinguished Master Thesis Award is an honor that is earned through hard work. I would personally like to offer my congratulations for the achievement.”
Wiltse's thesis focuses on improving the way patients are prepared for surgical operations. Wiltse has plenty of first-hand knowledge of this subject. He has been a nurse for 30 years and has focused on surgery for the past 15 years. He was also diagnosed with metastatic neck cancer halfway through his Master's degree program. He paused his education for six months to focus on treatment, and then continued on to complete his degree. He would like to thank the doctors and nurses for everything they have done to allow him to continue on with his career and his life.
“The most important thing that I learned during my education at Independence University is to set your goals, keep moving forward toward those goals without looking back, and don't ever stop until you have reached your goals, no matter how many obstacles get in your way,” Wiltse said.
Wiltse is currently a clinical specialist in a surgical services department at a level one trauma center in southern Florida. He plans to improve his teaching skills and continue learning and working toward improving the perioperative process.
